Is Nothing Sacred? The Hacking of the Nintendo Switch

What you can do to protect your Nintendo (and other accounts) from cyber attack

In case you haven’t heard, Nintendo was recently the victim of a significant cyber breach in which over 150,000 user accounts had their login and password stolen. The breach happened through the way Nintendo allowed users to log into their accounts through their Nintendo Network ID (NNID).

In addition to login and password information, hackers may have also obtained user nicknames, birthdates, and email addresses. Some users may have suffered fraudulent purchases made with the stolen account information.

Nintendo took swift action in resetting the passwords of the affected accounts and has turned off the ability to log in via NNID — of which the Nintendo Switch was recently able to use to attain that access.

In one regard, this may be a case of closing the barn door after the horse has escaped. That said, Nintendo, along with pretty much everyone else in the world of cybersecurity, offers these suggestions to protect your online information:
