Despairing over a black screen or page?

I get it. We’ve all been there. You want to write, but it’s just not happening. It can be maddening.

The good news is that anyone can try these simple strategies to get past the dreaded writer’s block.

Don’t Waste Energy Over-preparing.

While some writers won’t get into a piece of writing without an outline, for others, the idea of meticulously outlining a piece and arranging notes can be more trouble than it’s worth. While it can be a helpful process if that’s your writing routine, no law says it has to be this way.

You write the way that comes most naturally to you — especially at first.

We’ve come a long way from writing on stone tablets. If you are looking at the blank page before getting into a particular piece, don’t let having an outline or notes keep you from starting. You can always go back and rearrange, edit, add, or remove as needed.

The main requirement is to get some words down, and some flow started. Free yourself, and you can neaten up later. The added benefit of this is that it allows you to form your ideas…
