Ask any musician, artist, or athlete what the key to success is.

They’ll all say the same thing. Develop a good daily habit to build your skills.

It’s pretty obvious when you think about it, but I’ve known so many people who want or claim to be writers who just don’t put in the work. They’re more in love with the idea of being a writer than doing any actual writing.

Hell, back in my college days, that was me. And I understand why this is so.

Being a writer is awesome.

But writing itself is hard. Even if you’re good at it, writing can still be hard. Coming up with ideas to put on a blank page, thinking about audiences, and fretting about how your writing will be received can all be pretty paralyzing.

All that said, being afraid to write will also not help you become a writer.

What works is taking a deep breath and building a few healthy daily habits to make your writing easier, stronger, and, perhaps, more profitable.

My days of being a college poseur are some 30+ years in the past. Here are some simple strategies I’ve used over the years to make my writing career more profitable…
