Why, As a Writer, I’m Still Sticking With Medium

It can be frustrating sometimes, but it’s more than worth it.

I’m nearing my second anniversary at Medium, and with nearly 400 articles under my belt, I sometimes wonder why I’m still here. Sure, I’ve had a few pieces go viral, and there have been some months when the money was pretty good.

But the longer I’m here, the more frustrating I’m finding things. Medium’s overall opaqueness, mysterious operations and algorithms, and undependable Partner Program payouts are features I doubt I’d put up with anyplace else.

Yet here I am. Still.

Why?

The truth is that despite its issues, Medium is still one of the best places to be as a writer online.

Let me explain why.

A Place For Writers Before All Else

Yes, Medium is also a place for readers — and a good thing, too.

Because many of us are writers who want readers.
